@Gwywen: What city will you be living in? Apparently all Denkler's(my family name) come from some small town outside of Münster. I'll have to get the details when I get there. I can't wait. I might even research and write a paper on the history of that area as it pertains to Westphalia and Germania proper. The place is full of Universities. Tons of research material to dig endlessly through.

I'm moving to Bad Bentheim. My roots are from somewhere around Osnabruck, my father has researched our family's genealogy until the late 1600s or something. Looking forward to return to the Heimat :)
I hope you'll be able to find some links to your roots as well.

Hehe, my aunt lives there, my grandma lived there untill she died 1 1/2 yrs ago and i grew up a few kilometers to the east, in Rheine. The world seems to be small... But Bad B. is booooring! The only good time is exactly at this weekend http://www.badbentheim.de/veranstaltung ... piele.html

@Troll: I think many of us are descended from the peasantry. It's hard to find true noble blood these days and more often than not the family tree is bogus.

@Gwywen: If you are there in June(11-23), we should definitely meet up and raise our glasses to the glory of Armin. ;)

@Zwerg: I don't know. That is why I have to go to Germany and find out. The oldest Denkler, Willi, died just recently and he apparently pointed out the town to some of my family when they visited. Yet none of them seem to remember the town itself. I am the kind of person who will mark it on a map and research things like that. What really gets me is that there are 2 other historians in my immediate family(aunt and uncle) who both visited Münster. Guess I am the 'real' historian in the family. lol.

I still haven't bought The Prague Cemetery, but I started reading The Name of the Rose as a warm up. Though I'm a big fan of Umberto Eco, I've never read his most famous book before.

Guess where I was last weekend. 8-)
I'm going each year. If only to see Furunkulus live

@Fenrir: I might, not sure yet

@Troll, did you read Death at Intervals by Saramago?
He has a weird sort of interpunction (none, actually) but his books are... sort of creepy, in a way.

Just bought today, some 'light reading.' ;)

Marcus Aurelius - Meditations
The Arabian Nights - Translated by Sir Richard F. Burton
Herman Hesse - The Glass Bead Game

These will be good. I will post reviews as soon as I am done. Think I will read Hesse first since the plot appears to involve a mind game. It's been a while since I have read a good 'different' book.

Holy crap, I just literally glanced at my bookshelf and saw that I have 'Siddhartha' by Hermann Hesse. I guess I was destined to be a fan. That means I have to start 'The Glass Bead Game' tonight and probably also means I should save some money for more quality literature purchases from the old world.

@Gwywen: I haven't read any of his books, but I guess I should fill in the gaps. Death at Intervals sounds interesting.

Finished Game of Thrones.
Yes, it was good and I will definitely read on....but what's with the constant pants-jizzing about it? Mr. Martin uses classical themes and characters, builds up the tension step by step by step and then lets all hell break loose at the last 150 pages. As I said, very good plot, and he knows how to write, but SUE ME, it wasn't as breathtaking as everybody claims. I will be more impressed if the second volume continues with the "speed" that the first one ended with. If he starts all over again, then - well, then there's that. Don't spoil anything, please.

Now reading "Deadwood" by Pete Dexter. Got it for birthday. Now you would think that this is a book written after the HBO-series came out, trying to make some money off the hype, but it was in fact published back in 1986. Only have read a few pages so far, but Bill, Charlie and Al are already involved....and Al has started off by sucking someone's cock. WTF?
Still to this day
I can hear the whistle blow
I can smell the sage burn
I may be as old and stubborn as a pine
But I am just as wild as the young.
