I can't figure out whether this TV Maci was on our TV as well or not. We'd watch a lot of Czech and Hungarian cartoons as children, Eastern Europe freaking rocks when it comes to good cartoons for small children.

I'd say the moral of the new cartoon is that the boy is using computer when his little sister comes to beg him to spend time with her but he refuses. Later he regrets being mean and comes to watch TV and then draws with her. But then again I'm old and am spoiled with sociological theories when watching children stories. With both characters having smiley faces all the time (no sign of her being sad, no sign of him actually feeling bad), I might be completely off with the explanation.
But I agree, the computer and TV are there only to make children feel the familiar situation.

Why am I analysing cartoons on the Trollbooard? :D

My favourite Hungarian cartoon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJOuOkEW ... ure=relmfu
Or: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHi40qnR ... ure=relmfu
But it's for adults. We watched it as kids tho.
One beer to rule them all.
One whiskey to find them.
One vodka to bring them all
and in the drunkness bind them!

Gusztáv is awesome. It is not for children indeed, but we too watched it.
Eastern European cartoons are amazing. All of them. I will never forget Bolek and Lolek, Mole, Nu, pogodi! and Rumcajs.
Millions of Hungarian cartoons were made until the end of the 80s and all of them were good. I wonder what happened then. It's hard to tell, but I think the most popular one was Süsü, a sárkány kalandjai. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZzxJerm-bA
Süsü the dragon is a real WTF. He starts weeping every time people make fun of him and he has a huge desire for becoming a rosebud and letting butterflies fly on him. Not to mention that in Hungary dragons have at least three heads. He has only one. Everybody loved him though.

Nice analysis Arvathyll. So, there is a story behind the marketing ploy? Might as well be.

So apparently this TV Maci is a Polish import ... called, in the native tongue, Mis Uszatek, or "Teddy Floppy-ear". Apparently the most popular Polish cartoon, sold to over 20 countries for translation and such.

Interesting?

Waaa, I used to watch Gasilec Samo, as we call this cartoon, a lot as a child. But it's an English cartoon, isn't it? Not Croatian?
The comments below it are typical: apparently this is the new intro and people are missing the old one.

I'm reading here that Medved Bojan or Bojan the Bear (what's up with bears?) is actually a Slovenian cartoon. Wooh, didn't know that. I thought it's Czech like all the rest of 'em ;)

I'm not sure if it is originally English. My ex told me she used to watch it when she was young.

This might be too much information, but she asked me one time about American nicknames for a dick. I told her that one was 'the fireman' as the head resembles a fireman's helmet. Thus 'Sam' became her nickname for mine. That is some type of Freudian slip and I don't know whether to take offense or not. How can a member trigger memories of childhood???

No, TV Maci is Hungarian. Mis Uszatek is different. Well, although we liked Mis Uszatek a lot we wrote Vampire Granny lyrics for its title song.

It depends, Dude. Sure enough you know about the clichés of us germans being super-precise, always on time, always correct and having no sense of humor at all? Well, think of it what you want (and you'll find out for yourself soon enough), but I strongly advise you not to walk around here with your Sam flopping out of your pants. ;)

I can smell the sage burn
I may be as old and stubborn as a pine
But I am just as wild as the young.
