Well, considering the dangers it's not a place you should walk for yourself. It's not an "usual" ghost town...

We are booking a tour before going there, and then we'll fly to Kiev and take the train back. It's a long way back to Sweden, but we're planning a two weeks long trip with stops in Krakow, Bratislava, Prague and Berlin.

They opened up Chernobyl for tourism a few months ago, so now it's legal and you don't need any special papers to do it, but you must be in a guided tour of course. One step off the pavement could give you really bad health consequences.

Wales: I think Snowdonia is a better idea then Cardiff actually if you don't have the time to see both. Cardiff is just a regular British city, while the area around Snowdonia is astounding! The mountains are great to stroll around in, and the people are incredibly friendly. There are a few hostels up in the mountains where you can stay, and have all that nature just outside the door, but I usually prefer to stay in Caernarfon, while it's such a sweet town. Aberystwyth (a coast side city on the way up from Cardiff) is also very nice to stop for a day or so in.

I am supposed to go to England, Wales and perhaps Scotland in May, if all goes well. But I am not very optimistic ATM.

Cumbria in England is worth a look, the lake district is very nice. And the neighbouring county Northumbria is nice too around Kielder water.
and if you make it to Scotland Kilmartin valley in Argyll has a wonderful prehistoric landscape.
And The Great Glen is really good too! :)

I don't know if the radiation levels off the pavement are high enough anymore to truly have any harmful consequences if you are only exposed for a very short amount of time.
I once saw a blog or something with some really cool pictures that someone had taken surrounding Chernobyl, although at the time they were taken, the person had to get papers and agree only to spend a short amount of time inside the restricted zone.

I think the cesium dust is the most dangerous thing today. And possibly plants and such, while they could have picked up substances from the dirt.

We've decided to take the tour with this company now: http://tour2chernobyl.com/ They seem to be the best. And hopefully we'll see Duga 3 and get to shoot AK 47's as part of the tour. I'm not 100% sure about the shooting thing though - I like historical weapons, but find guns sort of freaky.

I'll be really interested to see your pictures of Chernobyl after you go. I love looking at abandoned places. But that one is so risky!

Just don't eat anything growing along the side of the road.

Shooting AK-47's as part of a tour seems a little strange, but sounds very fun at the same time.

Oh, I'll post heaps of pics! I just hope my camera wont be radioactive and not allowed to take out of the zone.

Reign of Terror: No, Ive understood that it is a bad thing to do. Especially mushrooms. I've threatened a few of my friends to bring radioactive mushrooms back to them.

I'm probably going to a small village in the north of Sweden tomorrow, for the easter weekend. It's going to be the most Norrland experience in my life, as I'll be travelling with a man born and raised in the area. I expect moonshine, cars being repaired and even more reindeer than I normally experience.
Bottom line is where I live, middle line is the most northern city I've been to, top line is the village:

Maybe I will take a picture?
Jag saknar sommaren om vintern, och vår när det är höst
Jag klagar över värmen, gnäller högt i regn och rusk ^_^
Men över allt i världen, så vill jag stanna här

Sounds awesome! And do take lots of pictures.

Oh, and don't forget to bring your own active coal and some filters for coffee brewing. You never know what moonshine from that far out on the countryside will taste like. But of course that might be some of the beauty of it.
