nattfodd question

Postby utowndude » Sun Jul 11, 2010 1:08 am

Hi everyone,

I was browsing the wikipedia pages of Finntroll the other day and noticed that Jaktens Tid, Ur Jordens Djup, and Nifelvind were all about 42-45 minutes in length, give or take a couple minutes. I was a bit surprised to find out that Nättfodd is only 36 mins, which is shorter than most metal albums. I thought perhaps they simply didn't have enough songs to make an entire album, what with Tapio Wilksa taking over for vocals and all that. Maybe it was a busy time for Finntroll.

But then I looked up the page for the Trollhammaren EP, which features 3 exclusive songs (the other two are just trollhammaren and a forsvinn du som lyser metal version). This is good and all, but then I saw that the Trollhammaren EP was released SIX DAYS before the Nattfödd album. Why didn't they just put the Trollhammaren EP songs onto Nattfödd? This way, there wouldn't be three songs that are just on an EP, and would have made Nattfödd about 45 minutes, about the length of their other albums.

Have any thoughts as to why they did that?

Maybe just because they didn't see those songs fit into Nattfödd?

Yes, buy why didn't they? What was the reasoning behind it?

Here you go, from an interview with Wilska from 2004 (http://www.metal1.info/interviews/interview-en.php?interview_id=64):

Q: How did you choose the songs to be on "Trollhammaren" and they which will be on "Nattfödd"?

A: We saw what fit the concept of the album and which songs worked together, and went with that. We wanted this album to be a compact, short, sweet, swift kick in the genital area and so the songs that didn't fit there went to the ep.

I still disagree. I find that songs like Skog and Hemkomst would have fitted perfectly into the album. Tho I sometimes think they left the good songs out and put them on a EP to please the stupid mass with the album and keep the good shit aside for the fans of real music. Or maybe I'm just an idiot. I don't know. You be the judge.

Now I understand the reasons behind why the album is the length that it is :) , I had wondered whether it was something to do with the concept of the album and certain songs not fitting into what was included on the album :)

I have the 2CD Limited Edition Re-issue that includes the Trollhammaren which is really neat :D

Maybe they simply wanted to confuse people, so while were all here sitting discussing this, they're off somewhere laughing at us and our stupidity.
