So, two photos from our version of Halloween, us as Maglor and Maedhros from Tolkien's Silmarillion:

and

In case you're not familiar with the story but are curious: Maedhros and Maglor were the oldest sons of Fëanor (the elf who created Silmarils, also apparently made the Palantírs etc.). Maedhros was red-haired, he was caught very early on by Morgoth and chained to the towers of Thangorodrim. He was saved by Fingon who had to cut off his hand to free him. Maedhros later learned to be a great swordsman with his left hand. He spent his life fighting Morgoth (and trying to fulfil the oath his kin gave before leaving Valinor).
Maglor (me

) was his younger brother ad sort of a side-kick when it comes to the story. He was probably dark-haired, and he was 2nd greatest musician of all times (hence the lyre thingie). Often he is mentioned in connection to the sea. He and his brothers attacked the parents of Elrond (that elf from LOTR) and Elros, but Maglor took pity of the children and raised them as his own.
They're interesting because of the pain and regret they had by the end of the story due to the oath they were bound to. My favourite Tolkien characters by far (together with Fëanor). We represent them in their last days together: with the star of The house of Fëanor sewn everywhere (found also on the gates of Moria (
Pic from the book) and finally with Silmarils in our hands - so the oath was fulfilled. However, the jewels burned the brothers, so Maedhros cast himself into a chasm of fire, while Maglor threw his Silmaril into the sea (
Well-known Illustration) and is still wondering by the shores singing of his despair.
