True? Can't be, come on, because this urban legend exists in every country in this region, just the soap opera is different.

I remember Escrava Isaura tho. I think it was the first non-American soap opera on the program here, it was on telly when I was really small (like 7 years old or so). I don't remember anything about the story, but I used to watch it because of all those "princess" long dresses

Yes, several versions of this legend appeared later even over here (like collecting money for Esmeralda's eye surgery and such), but according to our mythbuster who researched this topic the Isaura one is true.
