Finished Game of Thrones.
Yes, it was good and I will definitely read on....but what's with the constant pants-jizzing about it? Mr. Martin uses classical themes and characters, builds up the tension step by step by step and then lets all hell break loose at the last 150 pages. As I said, very good plot, and he knows how to write, but SUE ME, it wasn't as breathtaking as everybody claims. I will be more impressed if the second volume continues with the "speed" that the first one ended with. If he starts all over again, then - well, then there's that. Don't spoil anything, please.

It's indeed hard to say why I love the books so much. Probably because it's impossible to predict certain things, which makes it different than most of the genre's literature.

I was thinking of opening a topic just about The Song of Ice and Fire series - with spoilers - to discuss some theories about what happens later in the books. Because my mind will explode, damnit.

Anyone has a problem with that (only one book series to get its topic)? Anyone in for it?

Count me in. I've read the entire series at least four times and it gets better every time.

Recently I've read The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, he is my other favorite author.

@Aldhissla: As I say to everyone concerning the show when they ask, wait until you see what happens next. The first book is great, but I never would have predicted the ending and certainly never would have predicted everything that has happened through A Dance With Dragons(book 5). It gets better and better. However, if you get sucked in like I did then book 4 was a pisser because it only focused on specific characters. Everyone ties back together early in book 5, but the story gets insane. I am confident book 2 will sell you 100%.

If you don't love Arya yet, you will. Trust me. She is one bad-ass little lady. At least I predicted that she would be cool from the beginning. Go me. I am guessing that many friends here, considering most of us share similar interests, called that as well.

Reading Kalevala by Elias Lönnrot Edited by Keith Bosley have wanted to read this for ages it is so well written I am taking my time over this so that I can take it all in!!

I just finished (proof-)reading by bass player's doctor thesis "Micro Imaging Employed to study Diffusion and Surface permeation in porous materials". Will someone please shoot me?
If not, I'll continue reading Berlin Alexanderplatz bei Alfred Döblin. It's written in a very strange manner I am not fond of, but it's a must-read for specialists in german studies, so I don't really have a choice, out of Uni or not.

"Hell's Angels" by Hunter S. Thompson.I bought and started reading that book ages ago and then stopped - for reasons I cannot remember (University duties, I guess). Great book so far - but that's not really a surprise since Hunter Thompson wrote it.

I've been reading some Zafon books lately, including the young adult ones, which are pretty good actually.
September Lights is still on my to-read list, our library doesn't have it yet.
