Nifelvind, Yule and childhood memories!

Postby TrollhorN » Mon Dec 21, 2009 11:45 am

Here´s an interesting topic for the Xmas holidays for you guys!

Remember when we were kids and when Xmas came, we used to guess what´s inside the present wrappings under the tree? Maybe trying to tear the package a bit in silence before mum noticed and yelled you to "stop fooling with the presents or Santa will get angry and for the last time, come to the Xmas dinner table already!" And then you spent the next hour chewing ham absent- minded because you couldn´t be sure was that one package with your name on it REALLY that cool toy you had wished from Mr. Santa?
No adults can really remember well enough how it was to be a kid two hours before the present- handling- out- ritual, right?

Or can we?

Given that Nifelvind is going to be out soon, the promos are most likely to flow around the world early next year. And we all know what happens then, hehe. So, my question is: Will you download the album as soon as you can before it´s released, or will you wait until the release? Does it matter to you if you download it, that you will miss all the art, lyrics and the concept of the album, having only "anonymous music" in your hard drive or do you only want to satisfy your curiousity, like peeking under the Xmas present wrapping?

I´m not going to moralize anyone for doing what they do, nor this is a poll about "yes, I will buy it"- this is a poll ONLY about "are you going to tear the wrapping when mum´s not looking?" So, let´s hear you out. How many of you will go nuts a´la Chip ´n Dale when you hear about the leaked promos? And to untighten your folio hat a bit- be honest! Even Santa can´t see your IP´s here. :D
And given my personal word on the matter, I or no- one in the band will ever hold any of you responsible for anything for answering this poll - I´m only curious and want honest answers from a dedicated fan perspective- not just from "some random metal fan". You guys are special! :D

Will I be tempted? Most assuredly, and it will be one hel of a tough wait until March, but I hope to be good and leave my present unopened until the day it is in my hot little fingers and I am able to experience it as a whole piece of art, it means more to me that way and I find that a release of this sort deserves that respect.

Well, honestly? I'm trying to convince a guy I know that might get a promo (well, the "company" he works for might) to let me listen to it (and no, he's not uploading promos) ... But then again, he might not get it or he might change his mind in letting me listen to it, so ...

As for the rest of it: every year before New Years my sister and I used to search the whole house to see what mom and dad have gotten us. That doesn't mean we weren't very very VERY happy when we actually got the right to hold that thing and we still examined it later all over back and forth. Does that answer your question? :/

After all, like you've said, it's been 3 years since UJD and you're teasing with UBR and the cover and descriptions and and ...

If it's a band I know never disappoints I will buy it without downloading it. For example, I hadn't heard a second of Hävitetty and Tulimyrsky, I didn't hear UJD until after I bought it at Wacken the following summer. Maybe the latter might make me look like a lesser fan?

Did Nattfödd give you a trauma, Trollhorn? Going to Sweden to play your brand new songs and somehow the whole audience knows the lyrics. I know I downloaded the shit out of that one and Visor om Slutet when they were leaked (quite early IIRC).

I feel like a bitch now :( But with me wanting to hear it as soon as possible, it's not checking out whether it's worth buying and it's certainly not disrespect for the band, it's just a mixture of curiosity and impatience. And I usually don't try getting things way sooner as I'm supposed to, but this is the new Finntroll album, for fucks sake.

@ Wicked: It might be that issue from the old forum when UJD leaked and Trollhorn was having a long and heated debate with a couple of guys who came bragging they've listened it before the release date.

Well, I wouldn't download it. I'm so eager to hear it, but I think it must be the "whole package". I usually don't download music at all, I like to listen to CDs. Also, what could be more cooler, than watch your CD-collection grow! What could be cooler, than to watch your CD-collections overgrowing might, while the whole world shits on you.

Remember, stop downloading illegally, or else celebrities' children won't get their island or new sites from the Moon!

(OT: TrollhorN, btw, if you're going to Helsinki 18.2 (if you wouldn't, that would be veeeery untrollish), remember to put that sack on, what you used on this years SOA.)

Every your album has its own atmosphere, and this atmosphere is created not only by music(which of course remains the main of it)but also by artworks, lyrics(its realy funny to translte it),photos.I remember my first album of Finntroll(it was Nattfodd),and i can say without any hyperbole that it impressed me not only by music..artworks of Skrymer are realy cool and what is realy funny...I can remember the scent of the paper where it was printed.Of course if tracks from Nifelvind will appear in internet I will listen to it and download it instantly, because its really hard waiting for Febrary)))But of course i will buy it when it will be released in Russia, because for me evey album of Finntroll is a masterpiece and when Under Bergets Rot and the new atwork appeared on myspase i understood that it will be realy great!))

I second that! And with Finntroll, I know I can't go wrong. Problem is that there's still no preorder-options in sight and even though I'll gladly wait till the album is officially released, i THEN want it playing on my stereo ASAP, especially since I visit this board on a pretty regular basis and just couldn't stand all you guys verbally jizzing in your pants because of Nifelvind and me being unable to contribute due to not-having-listened-to-it-yet.

I stick to bands I like very much. Means I appreciate what they are doing and respect the shitloads of hard work producing a new album and touring. And I want those beloved bands to go on with what they do. Therefore I always buy the CDs. They are much more valuable for me then dowloaded stuff. And I do not only want to have the music but also the artwork. I prefer Digipacks, as they are mostly really beautiful. And if it comes to more unknown bands, I mostly try to see if you can buy the CD directly on their website.

Of yourse I am sooooooooooooooo curious to finally hear Nifelvind, but I was so lucky to attend liveshows in London and Barcelona this autumn and having heard Under Bergets Rot live for the first time, so I think I can stand another 7 or 8 weeks (would of course be so much easier if that DVD would be released next week  )
